Poetry and Bathostry
Poetry and Bathostry are antitheses.
That is momentous, descriptive, evocative,
Memorable perfection, controlled and gracious thought,
Which draws a comprehensible picture of life
In metrical designs of vivid artistry.
Shapeless, undisciplined, prosaic, vague, This is
Arhythmic, ungrammatical and trivial,
Unpolished, unimaginative, dull,
Unlovely, colourless; a travesty of That.
If This is Bathostry – the rife disease of change
Infecting countless minds with its infirmity –
Whose victims heedlessly reject those principles,
(On grounds of age alone), which have enriched the world
Through time with genius – then That is Poetry.
