Paranoid Prism
Everybody’s spying
On me, on them, on you!.
Everybody’s spying
Because that’s what they do.
We only know they’re spying
Through unofficial leaking
From disaffected agents
Unwilling to keep sneaking.
It’s only through this Prism*
Of unconfirmed reports
That we know what they’re doing;
Though it still obscures their thoughts.
What do they want to know,
These watchers of our acts?.
Why do they need to go
Deep into private facts?.
Is it our security
That motivates their scans,
Or some abusive policy
Informing cryptic plans?.
Because they work in secret
We cannot know their aims;
Nor can we evaluate
The rightness of their claims.
Our leaders should be honest
In telling us the facts.
We have a right to know
About intrusive acts.
Everybody’s spying
On me, on them, on you!.
Everybody’s spying
Who’s nothing else to do!.
Note: * Prism: clandestine American surveillance system.
