Inspiration
(From: A Theory for Art)
Artists need inspiration. What is that?
It is the yeast of creativity,
(Which can be neither bought nor sold), without
Whose beneficial influence a work
Lacks lustre of the highest quality.
It is a searchlight that reveals to sense
The obscured aspects of the obvious.
True inspiration hones perceptiveness
To such acuity the mind becomes
A magnifying-glass, able to shew
What lies beyond our normal range of view,
And so permits observance of some new
Dimension to a situation, (or
Creation of originality,
Or the fresh working of an old idea,
Or transmutation of some subject to
Another form or medium), with such
Detailed precision and validity
That new art is created instantly.
