Amid such savage grandeur, (lying hard beneath

Stern, steeping hangars which reflect upon the cool

And placid surface of these peat-dark lakes in pale

Translucent greens and rusty browns), close-bounded by

Waterfalls and streams pouring pure simplicity,

Stone-silent monuments sleep in the lap of peace.

What courage Kevin shewed, to isolate himself

Far from the greedy comforts of humanity,

To wrestle with his Deity and contemplate

His Truth, (besieged by stark severity of scene

Through the wild winters of so many years), to prove

In prayer and praise the trust of personal belief!.

Surely the Saint achieved his quiet aim; how could he fail,

Amongst these psychic solitudes, to feel the force of God?.
