Misunderstandings
Larch trees, (I did not know this fact before!),
Change colour in the Autumn since they are
Deciduous conifers. It’s very strange
How something I had thought for years — that all
Pines are true evergreens — should be disproved
By observation at my stage of life!.
This makes me wonder whether anything
Outwith direct experience is true;
Or what mistaken concepts fill my mind
And falsify all that my brain perceives?.
Is this how rows, divorces, war begin;
Failing to note, (amid the general),
Particulars that make the difference?.
I must be more observant: think before
Unquestioning acceptance of each detail’s truth,
Lest my misunderstandings be causes for ruth.
