Exploration and Discovery
Amalgamated Cook and Darwin, now
I have the opportunity to search
The world, (home and abroad, both near and far),
For fossilised remains and recent strains
Still extant, (wheresoever they may be
Discovered), of Rima Brittaninca,
To prove my faith that records demonstrate
Its progress, in unbroken sequence, from
The simplest of beginnings to the top,
(The very crown!), of Evolution’s tree.
Deep in the lonely, tangled, jungle-depths
Of life’s experience I found the rich,
Nobel-Eldorado of my high hopes’
Ambitions and my Everest of fame!.
