Incantation
If I were Mercury, on healing wing,
To touch with white caduceus your hurt;
If I were famed Asklepios, to bring
Skill-blended draughts to ease your sickened heart;
If I were Solomon, that I might ken
That wisdom which would cure your sore distress:
I would your fierce tormentings banish then.
I would assuage your constant bitterness.
I would act wisely for your betterment
And bring cool comfort to your fevered brain;
And bring your aching body calm content;
And make your spirit wholly well again!.
If I could now revitalise your troubled life:
Oh God!. What miracle, if I were Jesus Christ!.
