              England, Awake!

          England, awake!.

The ambush is set. Their weapons prepared,

The forces of desperate Anarchy lurk

In the shades of numberless causes

          To strike at Democracy’s heart.

          England, awake!.

Awake to your perils unseen!.

Your enemies, who are the friends

Of ruthless tyrants and self-serving groups,

Are ready to assault your very life.

          England, awake!. Awake!.

          Myth-breathing Gog

And Magog, come again to win

New fame for English freedom’s honoured name.

Come in your fabled strength once more;

          Defeat our scheming foes.

          Those foes, more subtle

Than in ancient times, who do not make

An honest fight but, rather, skulk

In dark deceitfulness to seek

          Advantage where they may.

          England, awake!.

Awake to your perils unseen!.

Your enemies, who are the friends

Of ruthless tyrants and self-serving groups,

Are ready to destroy your peaceful life.

          England, awake!. Awake!.

          Time-breathing Arthur,

Bring to life again your noblest

Chivalry. Come with your knights to our aid

Before these secret enemies

          Can deal their fatal blows.

          Those enemies who

Plot to win power and self-

Advancement through our loss; those who

Lack pity for our helpless innocents.

          Though claining cause with them.

          England, awake!.

Awake to your perils unseen!.

Your enemies, who are the friends

     Of ruthless tyrants<and self-serving groups,

Are ready to imprison your free life.

          England, awake!. Awake!.

           Hope-breathing Hereward,

Hero of Saxon times, who fought

     Oppressors of your countrymen,

Return to us in this, our time need.

          Forestall the evil ones.

          The bigoted

Of every kind are here amid

The ranks of Anarchy. Their partial causes

Feed the lusts of reason-hating,

          Treason-scheming rebels.

          England, awake!.

Awake to your perils unseen!.

Your enemies, who are the friends

Of ruthless tyrants and self-serving groups,

Are ready to disperse your great ideals.

          England, awake!. Awake!.

          Sea-breathing Drake,

Beat loud your Drum’s deep call to warn

This island nation that heartless pirates

Surround us, as the seas enclose

         Our favoured lands and homes.

          Those crafty men

Of politics, who glibly press

     Activities which undermine our Laws

Of natural reason and fairmindedness,

          Are numbered with the foe.

          England, awake!.

Awake to your perils unseen!.

Your enemies, who are the friends

Of ruthless tyrants and self-serving groups,

Are ready, now, to strike against your heart.

          England, awake!. Awake!.

          Fight-breathing Churchill.

Re-appear to us and lead us, as once

Before you lad, against the soul-less forces

Of the Dark and brought us safely

          Through to victory.

          Come Gog and Magog!.

Arthur and Hereward come, with Drake

And Churchill!. Your time of resurrection

Is here and now!. We need your loyal strengths

          Your courage and your fight!.

          England, awake!.

Awake to your perils unseen!.

Your enemies, who are the friends

Of ruthless tyrants and self-serving groups,

Are ready to impose their dreadful rule!.

          England, awake!. Awake!.

          The ambush is set.

Their weapons prepared, the forces

Of Anarchy lurk in the shades

Of numberless causes, ready to strike

          At Democracy’s heart.

England, awake!. Awake!. Awake!.
