Nightwatchers
You watchers of the night!. Why do you stare
So steadfastly upon the silent stars?.
Do dreams of famous immortality
Impel you to explore, with such profound
Intent, the depths of universal space?.
Or do you seek human survival there
When Earth’s a cold, unhabitable mass?.
Can men, themselves so physically weak,
By intellect alone their future find?.
Should they not trust the prescience of God
To furnish them with that unknown abode
Where they shall live after this world is dead?.
Watch not the stars!. Rather, look down and learn
That life itself id worthier concern!.
